Embroider a DIY baby towel: a personal gift for a birth

There is something meditative about embroidery. It allows us to switch off from everyday life and develop our creativity. Decorating a baby towel with a rainbow is not only a great DIY project, but also a little work of art. In our instructions we show you simple embroidery techniques that you can use as a beginner to achieve a gorgeous result. You’ll see: it’s a lot of fun!

Embroider a baby towel: An embroidered rainbow motif on the hood of a baby towel

  1. Draw or print out a template for your rainbow and transfer it to the embroidery stabilizer.

  2. Position the motif in the middle of the hood of the baby towel, remove the protective film and stick the template in place.

  3. Stretch the hood of the towel into the embroidery hoop. Make sure to only tuck the front of the hood.
  4. Embroider the first arc of the rainbow using the backstitch. Use a doubled thread and place even stitches along the template. Sew the thread carefully on the back.

  5. Work out the second arch with the daisy stitch. This creates heart-shaped loops that make the motif appear lively. Secure each loop with a small stitch.
  6. For the third arch, use the satin stitch with six threads. Make sure to place the stitches close together to create a smooth surface.
  7. For the fourth arch, embroider a leafy tendril using back stitch and daisy stitch. Alternate between stitches to create the leaf motif.
  8. The fifth arch, like the first, is worked with a back stitch. Use a doubled thread again.
  9. Then remove the embroidery frame and wash out the embroidery stabilizer.

Of course, you can also deviate from our instructions for the stitches for the individual sheets and use the stitches that you like better. If you want, you can also embroider the child’s name under the rainbow to further personalize the towel.
