Step-by-step instructions

1. Clean the wreath

Remove candle residue, wire tips and decorations and make sure that no sharp edges remain.

2. Mix bird seed

Prepare the bird food by mixing the liquid coconut oil with a ready-made grain mixture or e.g. B. peanuts, sunflower seeds, oat flakes and dried mealworms. The mass should be easy to shape.

3. Make mini bird seed cakes

Divide the mixture into the bundt cake tins in portions. Press the seeds well into the mold so that your cakes are nice and dense and remain stable for a long time. Then insert ice cream sticks into your bundt cakes; You can use this to attach it to the wreath later. Let the food cool down well so it will last better later.

4. Hang the wreath

If you want to hang up your feeding station and not place it on the garden or balcony table, attach a string or wire to the wreath in three places. It’s best to hang it protected from the wind and out of the reach of cats. After a short time, the first birds will discover your new food source.

Tips for even more success when upcycling Advent wreaths

Hang the wreath in a quiet place because birds don’t like hustle and bustle. It’s also worth refilling regularly. Always use unsalted ingredients because salt is harmful to animals. If you have multiple wreaths, you can set up multiple feeders at the same time and help more birds.
