In this post we’ll show you how you can make fun surprise flowers out of egg carton. The technique is reminiscent of the little dolls from childhood that were pushed out of a funnel using a handle. And our DIY also seems quite inconspicuous at first glance, but with just one move it reveals its floral splendor.

The “technique” is quite simple, but does not fail to have a surprising effect. A simple sliding mechanism unfolds a small bouquet of flowers that previously remained hidden inside the egg cardboard. For this DIY you only need a few materials and you even do something for the environment. After all, with the egg carton you are using supposed garbage and giving it a new life. There are probably empty egg cartons piling up in your home too. Don’t throw them away, make them the star of your craft table!

- Egg carton
- Acrylic paint z. B. online here 🛒
- 1 wooden sticks e.g. B. Shish kebab skewer
- colorful craft paper
- small wooden ball with a hole z. B. online here 🛒
- Cut out one of the prongs from the egg carton – i.e. the pointed part between two egg wells. This will later be the “flower house”.
- Design the open side of the spike as you like and trim the edges decoratively.
- Paint the egg carton spike the color of your choice.
- Cut out small flowers with stems from colorful craft paper. Make sure they are no longer than the egg carton spike is high.

Glue the paper flowers to one end of the wooden stick. Tipp: The flowers should protrude beyond the stick so that they fan out nicely later and you can’t see the stick.
- Use the scissors to carefully poke a small hole into the tip of the egg carton spike.
- Insert the wooden stick through the open side into the egg carton prong and push it through the hole. Continue until the flowers completely disappear inside.
- Slowly push the stick up until the small bouquet of flowers visibly unfolds. Mark this position on the stick.
- Slide the wooden ball onto the wooden stick up to the mark and stick it there. It later serves as a “stopper”.
- If you want, you can add a small message to the outside of the egg carton – for example “For you”, “Thank you” or “You are wonderful”.
