Plant baskets made from birch branches: Make quick spring decorations

Spring brings fresh green, the first flowers and a lot of desire for new decoration ideas. If you like crafting with natural materials, a homemade plant basket is perfect for this time of year. The branches of the silver birch tree in particular appear light, rustic and at the same time elegant because they can be bent particularly well.

Plant baskets made from birch branches: spring decorations with natural materials

With a plant basket made of birch branches you can bring spring directly into your home. The small, curved basket is ideal for flowering bulbous plants such as hyacinths or grape hyacinths. At the same time, a natural spring decoration is created that you can quickly design yourself.

You also only need a few materials because the birch branches already form the decorative frame. Add some moss and a few quail egg shells to create a charming mini-sized spring landscape.

A plant basket made from birch branches can be wonderfully varied. Instead of hyacinths, you can also use primroses, daffodils or small succulents. The basket also looks particularly pretty on the Easter table if you also place small porcelain bunnies or self-painted mini eggs between the moss.

For example, place your basket on a wooden tray and combine it with candles and pussy willow branches – this will make your spring decoration look particularly harmonious.

  1. On your next walk, collect fallen silver birch branches – the more, the better. Cut the birch branches to a similar length, we recommend approx. 50 cm in length.

  2. Now take a neat bundle of twigs and wrap the wire around the end of your twigs several times. But be careful: Leave about 10-15 cm left so that we can install the decorative handle for your basket.

  3. Now grab the other side of your fagot and wrap the wire around the end several times. Again, leave around 10-15 cm.
  4. Fan the branches apart between the wire wraps to create a kind of hammock.
  5. Now take a slightly thicker birch branch or find several thin branches that you twist around each other, e.g. B. from the corkscrew willow and attach it to the opposite end of the basket.

  6. To do this, divide the ends of the branches over the wire wrapping and place the branch between the branches. Gather the branches over the branch again and wrap wire around them again. This gives your plant basket a decorative handle.
  7. Now put a piece of foil, e.g. B. from potting soil packaging or baking paper and line your basket with it. The baking paper will be easier to put in if you crumple it up beforehand and flatten it out again.

  8. Now place the hyacinths and grape hyacinths in the bowl without pots. Make sure that they are close together so that the basket looks particularly lush later.

  9. Spread moss around the plants so that the soil and roots are not visible. Then place some quail eggs and feathers between the early bloomers to create a spring-like decoration.
